Livestock Exhibits

Welcome to the livestock barns at Skamania County Fair & Timber Carnival! Whether you're a seasoned 4-H member or trying your hand at open class competition, we're glad you're joining us. Our livestock program is a cornerstone of the fair, giving young people hands-on experience in animal husbandry while sharing agricultural traditions with our community. And since admission is free, your whole family can come out to cheer you on!

What We Show

You can exhibit: Bovine, Sheep, Goats, Pigs, Poultry, Rabbits. Each exhibitor can bring up to 5 animals to show.

How to Register

All entries are handled through the FairEntry system.
4-H Exhibitors: You'll get regular updates and reminders through your 4-H office via the Clover Reporter.
Open Class Exhibitors: Have questions? Reach out to us at livestockbarn@skamaniafair.com and we'll get you sorted.

What You'll Need to Do

Showing livestock at the fair is more than just stepping into the ring.
Here's what's expected:
  • Show each animal in either a market or breed class
  • Participate in fit and show (showmanship) for each species you're exhibiting
  • Complete a breed/market record for each animal
  • Create a poster to display
  • Complete livestock judging
  • Pitch in for one hour of herdsmanship per species (keeping the barns clean and animals comfortable is a team effort!) per day
  • Make sure you review the complete livestock rules so you know what to expect.

Classes & Competition

Showmanship (Fit & Show): Divided by age groups – this is where your handling skills shine.
Breed Classes: Sorted by breed, so you're competing with similar animals.
Market Classes: Sorted by weight breaks. Every animal you bring needs to be shown, and you'll want to be ready to show your best in each category.

Camping On-Site

Livestock and horse exhibitors are welcome to camp on the fairgrounds so you can stay close to your animals. It's part of the experience – late-night barn checks, early morning feedings, and swapping stories with other exhibitors. Learn more about camping options.

Taking Care of Your Animals

We expect the highest standards of animal care at our fair. Your animals should be healthy and well-cared-for throughout the event. Health certificates and vaccination requirements are outlined in the rules – make sure you've got everything squared away before you arrive. This is a learning experience, but it's also about showing respect for the animals in your care.

Awards & Recognition

Premiums are awarded for each placing – a little something to recognize your hard work.
Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion ribbons go to the top animals in each breed or market species.
Grand Champion Showmanship winners take home belt buckles for each species – wear it with pride! Want to sponsor a buckle? Checkout our sponsorship page for more information!
Market and Breed Champions receive banners to hang in the barns.
